How’re things going with you?

That kid who likes to swing at the playground and not worry at the moment. This makes me smile because I see myself.

A common first question we ask our friends when meeting in person is, “How’re things going?” And a common answer is “It’s all good! My family is healthy and happy right now.”

We tend to weave health into our conversations because it affects everyone of us in some shape or form. Health is also something we tend to take for granted. I did at one point and is why health advocacy for others is important to me.

When people encounter difficult situations such as a health scare, friends mean well and tend to say “Don’t worry, it will all work out and get better” or “It will be okay.”

We want to believe that yet feel uncomfortable. Feeling uncomfortable is a choice in many ways.

It’s important to share with others how things really are going…in the right setting of course…and share your story so others can learn from it. This actually is beneficial because that releases pressure inside of you.

Remember that you’re not alone and don’t be afraid to reach out to someone you trust.

I can’t get caught up in the darkness. I just don’t. I always want to gravitate towards light. I love picking yourself up or surviving or being grateful for the good stuff, and not getting lost in the tough stuff. That discipline is so natural for me.  ~Drew Barrymore

The lesson here is that things don’t always go right or we aren’t always comfortable. The choice should be to not focus on the discomfort or the negative aspect.

If you believe on a deeper level that somehow, no matter the outcome, that you will be “okay” — this can change your entire experience of living.  (This is a discipline I embrace as well.)

Gratitude is a word that holds a lot of power.  Gratitude changes your attitude.

What’s one thing you’re grateful for today?

I have an “ask.”

I’m currently applying for speaking opportunities. What topics or stories (around health) would you be most interested in?
