If you’re like me, you enjoy listening to music when cooking, driving, exercising, or just listening in general. Music can uplift you, it can change your mood.

Music is an expression of emotion. The way vocals and/or instruments are combined produces a form of beauty.

Listening to music has always been one of my escapes. I don’t always pay attention to the lyrics because I’m drawn to the rhythm first. I’m definitely paying more attention to lyrics in 2020.

The meaning behind lyrics can be interpreted differently for everyone. To me, the lyrics for Times Like These has a positive aspect because it tries to lift you up during a hard time in life.

• Things don’t always go as planned.
• You are at a crossroads, but confident you’ll find the right path and come out stronger.
• It allows you to pause and be grateful. 

My vote for the song-of-the-year for 2020 is Times Like These, by the Foo Fighters; it was written by Dave Grohl and originally released in 2003. It reminds me to appreciate what we have.

I also prefer acoustic versions of songs. Times Like These made a big acoustic comeback this year by a group of artists in an event hosted by BBC and Dave Grohl – called Stay At Home Lounge – all profits going to charities during the start of the Covid lockdown in Spring 2020.
